GAFP’s 75th Anniversary Celebration Kicks off at the 2022 Annual Family Medicine CME Weekend

The Georgia Academy of Family Physicians (GAFP) convened November 10-12, 2022 for the Annual Family Medicine CME Weekend at the Atlanta Marriott Northwest at the Galleria, near Truist Park and the Battery. The meeting hosted family physicians, residents and medical students, and offered the opportunity to network, participate in educational activities and explore leading products and services. This year’s theme recognized the 75th Anniversary of the founding of the AAFP and GAFP and the meeting featured many special touches to commemorate the occasion and honor the accomplishments of family medicine physicians.

This year featured a variety of educational topics offering attendees a total of 19.5 AAFP Prescribed credits. Some highlights include the Georgia Department of Public Health’s overview of Children’s Medical Services and the Georgia Autism Initiative, as well as lessons shared from our Summer of Thrive Workshop participants, who have been working to enhance their practice environments and optimize their coding processes. Additional highly rated topics included Pain Management, Maternal Mortality, and Bridging Oncology & Primary Care.

New this year, was a POCUS Workshop that was included in the price of registration. This 2-hour workshop discussed ways to use ultrasound to “see” the needle during procedures and included hands-on scanning of live models.

This year GAFP received a total of 31 research poster submissions from pre-med and medical students, residents and physicians/fellows. Posters were accessible virtually and displayed on-site at the Annual Meeting in the Hallway of Learning. The winners in each category were then given the opportunity to present their research on the mainstage during a CME session at the meeting. The Social & Information Hub featured a total of 37 exhibitors and was a great way to reconnect with colleagues and partners as well as discover new vendors and technologies. Our exhibitors were excited to connect with Georgia family physicians and gave away prizes that totaled more than $500. The meeting’s Platinum sponsor, Curi Insurance, also provided a headshot booth in the Hub.

On Friday evening, attendees came together for a night of dancing and friendship at the Diamond Jubilee President’s Celebration and Awards Dinner. GAFP welcomed Dr. Sharon Rabinovitz as President, and we also celebrated our awardees.

Thank you to the Education & Research Committee for their hard work in planning this year’s meeting. All presentations were peer reviewed by a member of the committee to determine appropriateness and any conflicts of interest.

The AAFP has reviewed the 2022 Annual Family Medicine CME Weekend and deemed it acceptable for up to 19.50 Live AAFP Prescribed credits. Term of Approval is from 11/10/2022 to 11/12/2022. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

The GAFP appreciates all attendees and industry partners for their continued support of GAFP meetings. The 75th Anniversary celebration will continue at the upcoming summer meeting, so mark your calendars now for the 2023 Summer Family Medicine Weekend scheduled for June 8-11, 2023, at Wild Dunes Resort in Isle of Palms, SC. Additional meeting information will be available in early 2023.
