Medicaid Postpartum Benefits Extended to 12 Months

Medicaid benefits for postpartum members have now been extended to 12 months of coverage. Effective November 1, 2022, The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services approved two Georgia State Plan Amendments, extending postpartum medical services from six months to 12 months for low-income pregnant individuals enrolled in Medicaid and PeachCare for Kids®, respectively. The approved State Plan Amendments supersede the previously approved “Georgia Postpartum Extension” 1115 demonstration waiver that extended Medicaid postpartum benefits from 60 days to six (6) months.

These two State Plan Amendments represent a change to eligibility only, and there are no revisions to the scope of services covered or billing processes.
