Georgia Academy Leaders Meet with Senior Blue Cross Blue Shield Officials

In late July, the Georgia Academy met with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia senior staff to discuss pressing issues related to our patients. The meeting lasted several hours, where BCBS’s medical director, Dr. Anthony Sabatino, discussed his desire to work on administrative burdens placed on family physicians. Shalini Wittstruck, Regional Vice President of Provider Relations, also discussed her teams plans for improving their communications to physicians and their offices.

Topics that were discussed included communications, enforcement of their emergency room policy, update on medical home activities, and payment related to their Exchange (Pathway) patients.

Both groups agreed that the meeting was helpful and future discussions are already underway. Thank you to the GAFP leaders who took time out of their practices to attend this meeting to represent Georgia’s family physicians:
