CALL FOR POSTERS

Submission Deadline September 7, 2020 (NO EXCEPTIONS)

The Georgia Academy of Family Physicians is seeking submissions for a Fall Virtual Research Poster Presentation to be conducted during the 2020 GAFP’s Fall Hybrid Meeting, November 13-14.

Criteria/Who Can Participate:

Submissions from Pathway to Medical School Pre-med students, and GAFP members who are medical students, residents and practicing physicians/fellows are welcome.

Posters presented may be research results, case reports, summer projects, or educational projects.  Posters may address any topic relevant to family medicine.  Submissions must be of original work not yet published or presented at regional or national meetings and completed.  Concurrent (2020) submissions to other conferences such as the North American Primary Care Research Group (NAPCRG) and Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) are encouraged.  Medical student projects previously presented at medical schools or on student “Research Days” are accepted.

During the submission review and acceptance process, several authors will be selected to virtually showcase in the research poster competition.  Each presenter will create an online poster presentation with the option to include both audio and video clips. Only presentations containing audio or video submissions will qualify for full competition judging.   The online poster presentation website will be open for viewing during the GAFP Fall Hybrid Meeting.

How to Submit Your Poster:

Complete Application Form   One application form should be completed for each abstract and poster submission.  Please indicate on the entry form the primary presenter (the on-site person) and please indicate if an advisor or coordinator was involved in the completion of the research poster, and the extent of their participation.

Abstract                                 

One copy of the abstract should be submitted with an electronic copy of your poster. The abstract should be no longer than 250 words.

Submit to GAFP                     

Submit application form, abstract, and electronic copy of your poster in .pdf format to Felicia Kenan, at fkenan@gafp.org by September 7, 2020.

Poster Acceptance Notification:

Competition finalists will be notified via email no later than Monday, October 12th.

All finalist will be notified by email if their abstract has been accepted for the virtual poster presentation competition.    Please make sure the presenter’s email address is current to ensure that all important communication is received.  After receiving their email notifications, participants will be provided guidelines to upload official virtual posters and oral video files.  All presentations must be uploaded no later than October 23rd for judging.  Oral presentations will be judged no later than November 6th.  Notification of competition results will be released by the start of the Fall meeting, November 13th.   ALL posters will be virtually displayed during the Fall Hybrid Meeting.

E-Poster Design and Oral Presentation Tips Webinars
Accepted presenters will be notified of complimentary live webinars that will cover e- poster design, video production, and best practices for your oral presentation. Webinars will be recorded if you cannot attend the live sessions.

During the Competition:

Oral Presentation Videos
For the 2020 Fall Hybrid Meeting, each approved presenter will prepare a 3-minute oral presentation video that will be uploaded along with their abstract and e-poster pdf. These materials will be available for meeting attendees and the general public through an online poster presentation portal

All abstracts and oral presentations will be reviewed and judged by a minimum of three judges.

Review will focus on the following:

  • Significance of findings for practicing family physicians.
  • Quality of presentation of findings.
  • Quality of methods used to generate findings.

In instances in which the above criteria do not apply, reviewers will seek to evaluate the extent to which the submitted presentation will be of interest to family physicians.

Posters will be virtually displayed during the Fall Hybrid Meeting.  Oral presentation judges will review posters containing video/audio clips by November 6, 2020.  Presenters should be concise, thorough, and knowledgeable of the presented research.  Presenters are expected to answer questions submitted via the poster portal from viewers over the course the conference.

One award will be given for the best presentation in the following categories:

  • Pre-med Students (one $500 award)
  • Medical Students (one $500 award)
  • Residents (one $500 award)
  • Practicing Physician/Fellow (1 recognition award)

Please note, if there are multiple presenters for a winning poster, they will share the award equally.

A listing of all winning posters will be published in a GAFP publication following the November meeting and announced during the Fall Hybrid Meeting.

  • November 6, 2020 – Final Oral Presentations
  • November 13, 2020 – Posters Displayed during Virtual Fall Meeting
