Georgia Healthy Family Alliance Director of Philanthropy Shares Impact of Community Health Grant Program with Rotary Clubs

Georgia Healthy Family Alliance Director of Philanthropy, Amy Turner, is attending Rotary Club meetings across the state to share information on the impact of the Alliance’s nationally-recognized Community Health Grant program, Tar Wars and our Capital Campaign.

Ms. Turner attended the Habersham Rotary Club on April 5th and is scheduled to speak at the Rome Rotary Club on April 19th where she will present a check to recent community health grant recipient Faith and Deeds Community Clinic for their Log It, Learn It, Let’s Stay Healthy Project. She will also speak to the Hall County Rotary Club on May 1st and is currently scheduling additional meetings in communities across the state.

The Alliance seeks to partner with Rotary Clubs to find funding to allow for more grants in communities. If you are a Rotarian and would like to have Amy attend your meeting to share the excellent work Georgia family physicians are doing across the state email aturner@gafp.org or call (404) 321-7445.

Since launching the Community Health Grant Program in 2012, GHFA has awarded 45 projects more than $198,245 in grant funds to GAFP member-sponsored projects that support GHFA priorities including underserved populations and outreach programs that promote healthy practices consistent with the principles of Family Medicine. The application deadline for second 2018 award cycle is May 14, 2018.

Nominations Now Open for 2018 Annual Awards

To my GAFP Colleagues:

It’s award nomination season and we’d like you to think about honoring a fellow Georgia family physician, or a deserving student or resident in your program. Please help me and the rest of your Georgia family physicians in recognizing exemplary service to the profession of family medicine and contributions to our State, by nominating someone for one of the following awards:

GAFP Awards Deadline To Submit Nominations
Family Medicine Resident of the Year April 13, 2018
Keith Ellis Resident Scholarship April 13, 2018
T.A. Sappington Award April 13, 2018
Family Medicine Community and Volunteer Services Award May 4, 2018
Georgia Family Physician of The Year May 4, 2018
Family Medicine Educator of The Year May 4, 2018

The Membership Committee will nominate a slate to be approved by the Board of Directors, and presentation of the awards will be held during the 2018 GAFP Annual Meeting in November.

Many noteworthy colleagues may not have been considered for an award because they were not nominated.  To download an electronic copy of the awards nomination package, go to https://www.gafp.org/awards-asp/.  New this year is that the documents are now in a pdf format that you can fill out and email back to GAFP, which makes it easier for the Membership Committee to read your nomination.

The awards nomination package includes the awards and criteria, nomination forms and a list of past winners of each award.

If you have questions, please contact Angela Flanigan at 1-800-392-3841 or aflanigan@gafp.org.
