Privacy Policy

Georgia Academy of Family Physicians (GAFP) thanks you for visiting its website. This website Private Policy describes the information we may collect from you during your visit to our site, how we may use it, and how we will protect the information, which you may opt to provide. We strive to balance our business interests in collecting and using the information we receive from you with your need for appropriate protection and management of any personally identifiable information that you share with us.

Information We Collect from Unregistered Visitors

Visitors to each of our websites can access the website’s home page, and browse some areas of the site, without disclosing any personally identifiable information. On some of our sites, we may collect information about the date and time visitors access our site. Our websites collect this information by depositing certain bits of information called “cookies” in a visitor’s computer. Attaching cookies to your system has no effect on how it performs. This technology does not collect an individual visitor’s personally identifiable information. Rather, this information is collected in an aggregate form. The cookies can tell us how and when pages in a web site were visited and by how many people. This aggregate information will enable us to improve our web sites to serve and inform you better. On most of our sites, you must register with us to view the entire site and request information.

Information We Collect from Registered Visitors

Personally identifiable information includes your name, address, phone number, e-mail address, health professional certification or any other information, which might reasonably be used to identify you individually. GAFP collects personally identifiable information from web site visitors when they register for services on our web sites. On our registration screen, we clearly label which information is required for registration and which information if optional and may be given at your discretion. You will also be given a choice about whether you want to receive periodic emails. Personally identifiable information will not be sold, rented or exchanged outside of GAFP unless the user is first notified and expressly consents of such transfer.

Accuracy

GAFP will make every effort to maintain the accuracy and confidentiality of any personal information you supply to us. If you wish to make additions or corrections to information that you submitted on our sites, please forward it to us via the “Contact Us” section on the site.

Third Parties

In addition to aggregate information, we may share some information with third parties as described below:
· Other Companies: We have strategic relationships with other companies who offer products and services on our web sites. When you are interacting with these companies, different rules and privacy policies may apply. For example, if you order a book from a bookstore on one of our sites, you will be asked to provide identifying information and credit card information to the company who runs the bookstore. We do not control the collection or use of information you provide under those circumstances, but we do require the companies to clearly state their policies so you can decide whether to give them any information.
· Companies and People Who Work for GAFP: We often contract with other companies and individuals to help us provide services. For example, we may host some of our web sites on another company’s server, hire technical consultants to maintain our web-based tools, or work with companies to remove repetitive information from member lists, analyze data, provide marketing assistance, and provide customer service. In addition, we reserve the right to validate licensure status and other information against available databases that list licensed health care professionals. In order to perform their jobs, these other companies may have limited access to some of the personal information we maintain on our users. We require all such companies to agree to comply with the terms of our privacy policy, to limit their access to any personal information to the minimum necessary to perform their jobs, and not use the information they may access for purposes other than fulfilling their responsibilities to us. We use our best efforts to limit the use of other companies in areas where personal identifiable healthcare information may be involved.
· Promotional Offers: Sometimes we send offers to selected groups of members on behalf of other businesses and sponsors. When we do this, we do not give that business or sponsor your name and address. We will provide a variety of mechanisms for you to tell us you do not want to receive such promotional offers. For example, we may provide an opt-in box for members to receive an email from another business, and we will make it clear that by opting in, you are submitting your data to a third party.
· Legal Requirements: We may release personal information to comply with law.

Other than as described above, GAFP will not release personally identifiable information to a third party without proper consent. If we discover that a third party inadvertently disclosed personal information about any GAFP’ members, we will take immediate action to prevent further occurrences.

Security

All information transmitted to GAFP websites is secure to the extent possible using existing technology. We have implemented technology and security policies, rules and other measures to protect the personal data that we have under our control from unauthorized access, improper use, alteration, unlawful or accidental destruction, and accidental loss. We have put in place appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and help prevent unauthorized access, maintain data security, and correctly use the information we collect on our sites.
