The lecture, "Drug Safety Initiative: Inappropriate Medications in Seniors," was presented by Adrienne Mims, MD, MPH during the GAFP's 2009 Annual Scientific Assembly & Exhibition.

The "Drug Safety Initiative: Inappropriate Medications in Seniors" presentation was developed to educate family physicians on geriatric pharmacodynamics, potentially Inappropriate Medications, drug to drug interactions, and safe prescribing practices for the elderly patient.

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Understand how certain drug combinations can cause patient harm
  • Recognize which drugs should be avoided in seniors and how to transition to safer alternatives
  • Understand how to perform medication reconciliation for patients in any setting

This activity is supported, in part, by an educational grant from Alliant Healthcare Research.
