The lecture, “Nuances of Oral Contraceptive Management,” was presented by Tamer Middleton, MD during the GAFP’s 2009 Annual Scientific Assembly & Exhibition.
The presentation was developed to educate physicians on a set of recommendations for the prevention, assessment, & management of pediatric overweight and obesity that are endorsed by major health provider organizations.
At the completion of this session, the participant will be able to:
- Describe existing types of oral contraceptives and their basic pharmacology
- Present epidemiology of oral contraceptive use in the United States
- Introduce evidence-based resources and guidelines for prescribing oral contraceptives
- Understand the etiology of discontinuation of oral contraceptives among women in the United States
- Discuss contraceptive counseling and clinical protocols that will promote consistent use of oral contraception and reduce unintended pregnancy risk
