Academy Will Kick Off 60th Anniversary Celebration at Family Medicine Weekend
Acknowledgment and celebration of the GAFP’s 60th anniversary will be woven into all the Academy’s CME events this year, including the GAFP Summer Family CME Meeting, scheduled for June 5 through June 9 at the Sea Palms Golf and Tennis Resort on St. Simons Island.

The GAFP Education Committee has once again gauged members’ needs and selected topics that are of concern to family physicians in Georgia. This meeting promises to be a combination of lectures and workshops. Lecture topics include Hairy Legal Cases in the Primary Care Office; and Obesity Goes Hollywood: Weight Management for Today’s Patient. Workshop topics include Common Spirometry Procedures and Reproductive Health.

GAFP will also offer members the opportunity to take two Self Assessment Module tests: Coronary Artery Disease and Hypertension, along with a clinical simulation. SAMs tests are now required once a year for a family physician to remain Board-certified.

The GAFP is proud to announce a special all-day diabetes workshop that will specifically target family medicine residents and be available to all registrants. The daylong workshop, to be held Monday, June 9, will include an innovative lecture that will give residents the opportunity to learn from experts around the state.

If all this was not enough, this year’s meeting will include a “how to code” slide at the end of each presentation. A coding consultant has been hired to determine determine the appropriate code for each clinical topic.
Along with the educational pieces offered at this meeting will be many social activities. GAFP will host a welcome reception on June 6, a family-friendly movie viewing and ice cream social on June 7 and jazz reception on June 8. There also will be limitless opportunities to play tennis, volleyball, horseshoes and golf on the Sea Palms property. And don’t forget about building a sand castle and playing in the waves by the beach.

How can you pass up this tantalizing combination of CME and family fun? Make your hotel reservations now by calling Sea Palms Golf & Tennis Resort at (800) 841-6268 and asking for the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians room block. Prices range from $149 guest rooms to $450 for four-bedroom villas.
