The lecture, “New WIC Food Packages and How Family Physicians Can Help in Communicating Their Effectiveness to Their Patients” was presented by Julianne Gaston, MPH, RD, LD during the GAFP’s 2009 Annual Scientific Assembly & Exhibition.

The presentation was developed to educate family physicians on the mission of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program, which is to improve the health of low-income women, infants and children up to age 5 who are at nutritional risk by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, information on healthy eating and referrals to health care.

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Present an overview of the changes to the WIC food packages
  • Provide information on how to use Medical Documentation Forms 1 and 2

This activity is supported, in part, by an educational grant from Georgia Division of Public Health.
