The lecture, "The Clinical Content of Preconception Care: Evidence-based Recommendations," was presented by Anne Dunlop, MD during the GAFP's 60th Annual Scientific Assembly in November 2008. The activity was developed to educate family physicians on ways to offer preconception care from the birth of one child through a subsequent pregnancy and ways to address specific risk factors that may have contributed to a previous poor pregnancy outcome. In addition, physicians learn ways to reduce infant mortality and morbidity and reduce maternal mortality and morbidity and improve women's overall health.At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Cite the most up-to-date information on CDC, AAFP, and ACOG recommendations for the delivery of preconception health care services to women of reproductive age, particularly as part of women's primary health care;
- Describe the need to focus on reproductive awareness and reduction of modifiable risks; and
- Summarize the existing tools to support your performance of specific preconception health care recommendations.
We thank you for participating in this online activity and hope it serves as a valuable educational tool.
