The lecture, “Lowering Infant Mortality in Georgia: Strategies in Family Medicine,” was presented by Anne Dunlop, MD during the GAFP’s 59th Annual Scientific Assembly in November 2007. The presentation was designed for family physicians as an approach identifying and eliminating or reducing modifiable risks to a woman’s health or her pregnancy outcome. Additionally, to identify and educate women about non-modifiable risks. This project also emphasizes factors that must be acted on before conception to have maximal impact.
At the completion of this session, participants will be able to:- To examine the rationale supporting preconception health promotion as a strategy for lowering infant mortality in Georgia;
- To review existing recommendations and practice tools for delivering preconception health care to women of reproductive age;
- To complete case studies applying preconception recommendations in various office scenarios.
